Double Peak Recovery is a licensed medical detox and residential treatment program in Escondido, California, serving adults across San Diego County. We are staffed 24 hours a day, treat substance use and co-occurring mental health conditions together, and move clients from detox into residential care without a transfer.
A small program, by design
Double Peak Recovery is a six-bed facility. That is a deliberate choice rather than a limitation. Large programs run on schedules. Small ones run on attention. With a handful of clients at a time, our clinical staff know every person in the building, notice when someone is struggling before it becomes a crisis, and adjust care without waiting for a treatment team meeting.
Every client has a private bedroom with an en-suite bathroom, meals are prepared on site, and the environment is residential rather than institutional. The clinical standards are the same ones a larger facility is held to.
The difference is how much individual attention is available within them.
What we treat
- Alcohol use disorder — medically supervised withdrawal management and continued treatment
- Opioid use disorder — including fentanyl, heroin, and prescription opioids
- Stimulant use disorder — methamphetamine and cocaine
- Benzodiazepine dependence — including medically managed tapering
- Polysubstance use — treated together rather than sequentially
- Co-occurring conditions — depression, anxiety, PTSD, and trauma, addressed alongside substance use rather than after it
Our levels of care
Medical detox
Withdrawal management with 24-hour staffing, validated symptom scoring, and physician-directed medication. Most clients complete detox in three to seven days, determined clinically rather than by a fixed schedule.
Residential treatment
Individual therapy, group work, family education, and discharge planning in the same building, with the same staff. Length of stay is based on clinical need and typically runs several weeks.
Dual diagnosis care
Psychiatric evaluation and medication management integrated into treatment rather than referred out.
Aftercare and alumni support
Discharge planning begins early, not on the last day, and includes appointments, medications, and connection to continuing care.
Medical and clinical leadership
Care is directed by Asad R. Hussain, M.D., our Medical Director, who is board certified in psychiatry and oversees medication-assisted treatment and psychiatric care. Clinical programming is led by Melissa Snyder, LCSW, a licensed clinical social worker.
Our team includes registered nursing and behavioral health staff on site around the clock, including overnight.
Medication-assisted treatment
Medication is part of treatment here, not an exception to it. Our program physician evaluates every client for whether medication-assisted treatment is clinically appropriate, which may include buprenorphine, naltrexone including extended-release injection, acamprosate, disulfiram, medically managed tapering protocols, and non-addictive comfort medications during withdrawal.
Decisions are individual and made after evaluation.
Insurance and cost
We are out-of-network with most PPO plans. Most PPO policies still provide benefits for treatment here, typically with a separate deductible and a higher coinsurance percentage than in-network care.We state this plainly because it affects what you pay and you should know before you commit.
We do not accept Medi-Cal, Medicaid, or Medicare at this time. Private pay and financing options are available.

Will my employer or family find out?
Your treatment records are protected by HIPAA and, for substance use treatment specifically, by the stricter confidentiality rules of 42 CFR Part 2. Nothing is disclosed without your written consent.
